22 Week Detailed Scan
The 22 week anomaly scan - the “BIG” scan!
At your first antenatal visit, a scan for the 22nd week of your pregnancy may be arranged to check that your pregnancy is progressing normally. The scan will show the baby’s development and looks for major abnormalities such as spina bifida.
A normal scan can can never completely guarantee that the baby will have no problem, but it gives very strong reassurance. We also check the placenta, amniotic fluid and the umbilical cord.
If you wish, you can find out the sex of your baby from this scan. A detailed scan report will be provided and this can be given to your Consultant. Should an abnormality be found, referral to an Obstetrician expert in that field will be made.
Time needed for scan: About 15-25 mins
